HTC Windows Phone 8X

3.3 out of 5 stars by 3 reviews
HTC might be more associated with Android based phones than Windows Phones, but the HTC 8X is one of the best Windows Phones available on the market and more than a match for many of the more popular Nokia devices.

Display

With a generously proportioned 4.3 inch screen with a high quality HD resolution, coming in at 1280 x 720 and giving a pixels per inch of 342 - higher than the iPhone - this is one of the best Windows Phone screens we've seen. It's also a highly resilient screen thanks to the utilisation of Corning Gorilla Glass 2, plus it offers truer colours than many other screens due to using S-LCD2 technology. All in all, this is one of the best Windows Phone screens out there, and competes with the best Android phone screens.

Performance

With a Qualcomm-designed Dual-Core 1.5GHz processor, the HTC Windows Phone 8X is best described as a powerhouse of a Windows Phone. No task that you perform on the phone will go slow, so whether you're opening up graphics intensive websites or playing the latest games, the phone will never lag on performance. There's also 1 GB of RAM meaning that many memory intensive apps can be open at once, plus 16 GB of internal storage, allowing you to store many apps, videos, photos taken on the camera and music. Sadly there's no MicroSD slot, but 16GB is enough to cover most needs.

Quality Camera

HTC have become known for their cameras, so much so that they regularly feature comparison shots in their advertising. Rather than simply going for impressive looking specs, HTC put together an amazing camera package that ensures that the quality of the images produced are second to none. With the HTC Windows Phone 8X you get a 8 megapixel rear camera which can also take Full HD 1080p video, as well as a 2.1 megapixel forward facing camera - perfect for Skyping friends and family on. The main camera is also equipped with a LED flash for photos and videos, as well as coming with a great auto-focus that can even be used while capturing videos.

And there's more

HTC are well known for their partnership with Dr Dre, and this continues with the inclusion of Beats Audio in the HTC Windows Phone 8X. This means you'll get much better audio quality with this phone than almost any competitor, whether you're listening to music using Beats headphones or earphones form any competitors.

The battery life is quite impressive, with a 1800 mAh battery included which for most users will easily allow them to get through a day of usage. There's also all the usual connectivity including WiFi, DLNA, A-GPS, Bluetooth and even a NFC chip which will become increasingly useful as mobile payments take off. The phone works on 3G networks and in some models on some networks also works on 4G LTE.

Personalise your phone

While other handsets often come with just two colour options, the HTC Windows Phone 8X allows users to pick from a wide range of colourful options from Yellow to Blue, Black to Red. All the options add a touch of fun to the phone which is missing from most competitors.

Software

Windows Phone 8 isn't yet as popular as iOS or Android, but it's quickly gaining ground thanks to an innovative and easy to use interface. Don't worry too much about app selection though - Microsoft have ensured that almost every big name app is available for Windows Phone, so whether you want to watch movies on Netflix, word process on Word or chat on Twitter and Facebook, you'll still have the apps available with the HTC Windows Phone 8X.
